In addition to socio-economic factors, the influence of the musical characteristics of songs on the dynamics of their hit parades was also studied. Overall, our preliminary study of the dynamics of popular music popularity and song success found that analyzing acoustic characteristics allows us to identify a range of trends over several decades, identify hits with their own dynamics, and help (to some extent) predict song success. In this preliminary study, we will focus on popular songs over the past three decades and attempt to highlight long-term trends in the musical attributes of both successful and less successful songs and see what makes songs popular over the years.
